April 18th 2015. 3.1 miles. Family

Needed to do a short run today but Paul on call so took Jamie, Holly and Lola with me up to the reservoir. Jamie and I ran, Holly cycled and Lola bounded. It was a beautiful day and a really lovely run. It struck me while going round that over this last year I have dragged my family all over the place, often at ridiculous hours of the day, often making them run, or just stand in the rain for hours waiting for me, and they have done this almost without a word of complaint. They have been such a…

April 15th 2015. 16.3 miles. Birds

Another longy today. Back along the canal to Torrance. Today I saw lots of wild birds. Apart from the usual ducks/pigeons/robins etc that you always see, I saw two herons (one was right beside me but flew to the other side of the canal before I managed to get a picture of it), a couple of goldfinches and would you believe Kali and Lindsay I saw your two parakeets!! They were too fast flying to get a picture but bright green and definitely there. If I’m honest I didn’t 100% believe you saw them but there they were. Wild parakeets…

April 11th 2015. 6.3 miles. Seaton

Back along the nature trail today with David (he might even be starting to enjoy it). But after a big curry (with rather a lot of wine) last night, followed by a huge lunch just before setting off today (what were we thinking) it was much more of a struggle. Nearly had to hide behind bush at one point (Ewan – you have mentioned this previously- never happened to me before). Made it back just on time to see all of our (8) horses not win the Grand National and then had a lovely evening with our new Cornish friends…

April 8th 2015. 14.3 miles. Padstow

Another beautiful day in Cornwall. Today I was dropped in a place called Hellandbridge, north of Bodmin where I joined the Camel Trail (follows the Camel River) and ran to lovely Padstow, where the rest of the family had cycled to. It was very hot but nice and flat and I was rewarded with some Rick Stein fish and chips followed by Cornish ice cream at the end. Really scenic route along what I think was once an old railway line. Think it was quite useful to run in the heat because Edinburgh could potentially be very hot at the…

April 5th 2015. 6.2 miles. David

We are in Cornwall for our holidays and what a lovely place to be.  The weather has turned from winter to nearly summer and this morning my brother in law David (not entirely voluntarily), and Jamie, came for run with me. David has run half marathons in the past but not for years, and Jamie has never run further than 5km, but we managed 10km which was magic. Happy Easter everyone x

April 3rd 2015. 3 miles. Short

Quick run today before setting off for Cornwall tomorrow to see my wee sis and family. Half the car seems to be filled with my running gear as I’ll need to do a few runs down there. The photos are from Easter 3 years ago when we did the same. Weather was lovely and Ros and her family live right on the beach which is fab. The holiday was somewhat marred by Holly having to go to emergency theatre on Easter Monday after smashing her mouth in when she fell off some very high monkey bars but she bounced back…

April 1st 2015. 6.7 miles. Katie

Went for a run with Katie today – a great friend from Uni days who has very handily moved round the corner. She is on maternity leave just now having recently had her second little girl and is just getting back into running. For any of you who know Katie you will be laughing at this – she is a proper athlete and has done many marathons, triathlons etc etc so I was a little bit anxious about going together. We actually meant to record a wee video but were too busy chatting. Don’t think I’ve managed to talk for…

March 29th 2015. 8.2 miles. Kilomathon

Anyone who organises a race to start at 8.30am is a bit mean. And when it is on the morning that the clocks go forward it’s just plain cruel. This was the Edinburgh Kilomathon, a 13.1 km run organised by the Edinburgh Marathon folk. All along the cycle path and then finished in Murrayfield Stadium which was nice. And quite fast for me too (although was still about 10 minutes behind everyone else I knew running). Left knee started playing up which is causing me some concern (usually right knee that is the problem) so I remain anxious about them…
